Wellness Ideas for a Perfect Mother’s Day

Wellness Ideas for a Perfect Mother’s Day: Give the Gift of Treat

Mother’s Day is a lovely time to acknowledge the wonderful women who care and give so much of themselves to our lives. Here at Treat, we have a wide range of gifting ideas for Mums at different stages of motherhood. (Gift vouchers are available to spend on any of the below ideas.)

First of all, it’s important to acknowledge that Mother’s Day can be a time of mixed feelings. For some, it’s a day of celebration and gratitude, and for others, it can be a reminder of loss and challenging relationships. We understand that not everyone’s experience of motherhood is exactly the same, and we want to honour the wide range of feelings and experiences that can be present on this day.

Whether you've become a Mum for the first time recently where you’re battling with sleepless nights, or maybe you have a house full of young children or teenagers, and you’re navigating the chaos of school or exams. Or perhaps you’re a grandmother enjoying more time for yourself as well as seeing your grandchildren. Here at Treat, we’re staunch believers in self-care at every stage of motherhood. It’s essential. You know how the old adage goes: Don’t forget to attach your own oxygen mask first!

1.   For Mums-to-be: Massage and Birthing Support

Here at Treat we’re very lucky to have an in-house midwife, Joan Marshall, who has 46 years of experience and provides a range of services to support families, couples and individuals, through their pregnancy, birthing and post-natal journey. Give the gift of hypnobirthing to a recently-pregnant Mum. Or alternatively, there are a range of services for different stages of her journey from: Just Pregnant Sessions, Meet the Family Sessions and Big Knickers and Crumbly Cake Session – the latter is a get-together to talk openly about big knickers, maternity pads, leaking boobs, moods, sleepless nights, crying babies over a cuppa, cake and a laugh. For more, check out this recent blog post that explores all of Joan’s offerings.

2.    For New Mums: Reclaim Calm with a Massage

A postnatal massage can feel like the massage of your life! Just when you need it most. A full hour (or even 90 minutes) of pampering can feel like utter bliss when you have a baby to care for. That’s because the early days of mother hood are often an exciting time but also a very tiring time too. A massage is a great gift to help new Mums adjust to sleepless nights, to support over whelm, and help Mum to feel more regulated and calm. A postnatal massage can also help to reduce muscle tension and soothe any physical discomforts that comes with carrying baby and breast feeding. Here at Treat we have seven different massage therapists so you can select a therapist that matches your needs. Checkout our massage therapist profiles here.

3.    For Mums of Young Children: Breathe with Acupuncture

As many Mums of young children know, the days can fly by in a blur of school admin, play dates and endless to-do lists. With the Easter holidays looming, it’s easy to feel like you never stand still. A session of acupuncture can be a great way to treat a range of issues at the same time. So if Mum is looking for a way to reduce stress, increase energy levels, but also help with sleep, and support any other pain or injuries – acupuncture is a great all-rounder treatment that can treat several issues at once. This holistic treatment can help restore balance to your body, also giving relief from tension headaches, fatigue, and the physical strain that often comes from managing a busy home-life. 4.    For Mums with Tweens or Teenagers: A Coaching Session

Raising tweens and teenagers brings its own unique set of challenges. As teens begin to feel more independent, it’s also easy to feel disconnected or uncertain about your role as a Mum. This Mother’s Day, invest in life coaching to help Mum navigate this transitional phase. Cathy Eden, is our in-house Life Coach at Treat, and she is just wonderful. (Find out more about her here.)

Life coaching helps people to find direction, explore their potential and create meaningful change in their lives. Coaching sessions are a non-judgmental, compassionate space, where people can explore their challenges and feel that you are being listened to, cared for and supported. We work together so that you can achieve your goals and move forward. Cathy says “I am currently coaching people who want to:”

●     Improve their self-confidence

●     Manage stress and avoid burnout

●     Understand and overcome procrastination and avoidance

●     Prioritise self-care

●     Have accountability to help them get things done

●     Be clear about their goals and work out what matters to them

●     Create realistic and actionable plans to lead more fulfilling lives.

5.  Mums Going Through the Menopause

We offer a wide range of treatments for Mums going through peri-menopause and menopause. In fact, our founder Rebeca Geanty, specialises in Women’s Health. Specifically, acupuncture can be a really supportive treatment during this phase of life. There’s been a great deal of positive research within a wide variety of areas, including how acupuncture improves sleep through menopause. In fact, acupuncture has been associated in offering a significant reduction in symptoms in women experiencing menopause-related sleep disturbances. The study from Taiwan identified 31 trials involving a total of 2,433 participants and the results showed that acupuncture led to a significant reduction in the likelihood of sleep disturbances. A multi-bed session costs just £38 at Treat!

6.    For Empty Nesters or Grandmothers: Pilates and Physio Sessions

After years of raising children, the empty nest phase can sometimes feel bittersweet. Although often it can offer up more time, as with every stage, it can also bring its own set of challenges. Reconnect with your body by treating yourself to a private pilates session with Claire Gurney, Treat’s in-house physiotherapist who specialises in muscular skeletal physiotherapy addressing issues with muscles and joints including back, shoulder or knee pain and injuries. The practices are wonderful ways to build strength, flexibility, and inner calm. One to one Physio Pilates (small group up to 4 people) is £75 (£18.75 per person). She also offers a Mummy MOT (60 mins) for £90 for all Mums at any stage of motherhood.

7.    For Those Who Have Lost a Mum

For those who no longer have Mum to connect with on this day, spending time doing some self-care on Mother’s Day can be a way to acknowledge the day while also giving something back to yourself. A sense of tuning into your self-compassion and giving to yourself what you need most. This will be different for each person. Perhaps it’s a duvet day watching all your favourite movies and ordering some sushi; or perhaps a walk on the North Norfolk coast; or maybe it’s being with loved ones or friends who understand what today means for you.
