Treat’s New Birthing and Antenatal Services for 2025
At Treat we have an in-house midwife, Joan Marshall, who works for the NHS part-time, and spends the rest of her week working in her private clinic at Treat Norwich. Joan has 46 years of experience and is able to offer a range of services to support families, couples and individuals, through their pregnancy, birthing and post-natal journey.
One of Joan’s popular offerings is her hypnobirthing course which is held over four sessions, totalling ten hours. These can be flexible times to meet the couple or individual’s needs. Hypnobirthing is an inclusive antenatal course and Joan loves delivering her workshops to support couples, single parents-to-be and same sex parents. The course is broken down as follows:
Week 1: How the mind works, and how to work with the body and mind together, in unison for birth. We learn how a positive approach to birth can affect outcomes.
Week 2: Understanding the physical pathway of birth and how the baby adapts in its journey to meeting its parents.
Week 3: Active birth. How being active during the birthing process can assist in a possible shorter labour time. Plus you’ll learn the importance of a calming environment with soft lighting, music, visualisation and affirmations. This is also a time you’ll discuss medically-supported births e.g. planned c-sections.
Week 4: How to make the birth environment special, whether it’s at home or hospital.
Course Info
Joan’s hypnobirthing course costs £350 (8 hours). This include time for couples and individuals to contact Joan by text message or FaceTime during the antenatal period if required and a postnatal catch-up visit to chat about their experience (and of course, a chance for Joan to have a baby hug).
Treat’s Offering Works Alongside NHS
All Joan’s classes works in harmony with the NHS, that’s because, Joan doesn’t give individual sessions of clinical care but she specialises in antenatal education at a time that is convenient to each person or couple. These individual sessions allows a bespoke and personal approach to care unique to them. Many people find that support of NHS services combined with Joan’s help, provides them with a very comprehensive level of support which can be especially helpful for first-time parents.
Pregnancy and Post-Natal Plans for 2025
In the New year, Joan hopes to also offer another four further services to Treat clients:
1) ‘Just Pregnant’ Sessions: A session for couples or individuals recently pregnant and a chance for them to ask questions and be guided into the NHS pathway of care.
2) ‘Meet the Family’ Sessions: A chance for up to six members of the family to meet together and discover the latest information around baby care. (This is a great one to invite grandparents to!)
3) ‘Sibling Learning’ Sessions: Big brothers and sisters can come along and learn how to hold and dress the new baby.
4) ‘Big Knickers and Crumbly Cake’ Session: A get-together to talk openly about big knickers, maternity pads, leaking boobs, moods, sleepless nights, crying babies over a cuppa, cake and a laugh.
Each of these sessions will be £75 an hour. (Watch this space for more!) To book a session with Joan call Treat Reception on 01603 514195 or email.
