The Acupuncture Point for Busy Minds

Understanding ‘The Point’ Through Storytelling

Part 3: The Acupuncture Point for Busy Minds

Welcome to part 3 of our ‘acupuncture through storytelling’ series. This follows a feature we were involved with recently for the fabulous wellbeing publication, Breathe magazine, an illustrated wellbeing magazine you can buy from all good supermarkets and shops.

As many of you will know first-hand, Treat’s founder, Rebecca Geanty is famous for her anecdotes and storytelling! During her sessions, she shares with patients different stories to explain how acupuncture works. And so this storytelling blog series was born! Breathe magazine has featured many of Rebecca’s great examples and so we wanted to share these with you on the Treat blog, too!

Previously in this blog series, we’ve shared how acupuncture can help restore calm and also how acupuncture can help with headaches and migraines.

In this week’s blog we’re exploring One Hundred Meetings (Baihui Du 20) a point known to help with complaints related to the over-busy mind, things like insomnia and other emotional disorders.

One Hundred Meetings (Baihui Du 20)

Metaphor: Mountain Top

It’s mentioned in the Ancient Chinese texts that this point helps with 100 diseases of the head. The name “Hundred Meetings” reflects the idea that DU20 serves as a central point where many meridians meet and can be influenced to restore balance and health. Effectively, it’s a point that can help many ailments including an over-active mind, palpitations, forgetfulness, dementia and insomnia. That’s why the image of a gathering of 100 people upon a ‘mountain top’ feels like a good way to depicter this point.

It’s a point that raises yang, the energy within each of you that is light and active. You feel yang when you feel you have “get up and go.” It strengthens your higher consciousness and brings connection while at the same time gives access to wisdom, knowledge and moves you on in your life. It’s used for some types of depression to lift the mood and treats a wide range of conditions, including headaches, dizziness mental and emotional disorders. You could say, it helps you to feel on top of the world, or else, a mountain.
