The Acupuncture Point for Anxiety and PMT

Understanding ‘The Point’ Through Storytelling

Part 5: The Acupuncture Point for Anxiety and PMT

Welcome to the final part of our ‘acupuncture through storytelling’ blog series. If you have only just joined us – never fear – you can catch up on previous blogs below. This particular series of blogs follows a feature we advised on for Breathe magazine, an illustrated wellbeing magazine some of you might be familiar with.

Treat’s founder, Rebecca Geanty is famous for her anecdotes and storytelling, and often, during her acupuncture sessions with clients she is known for sharing metaphors and little stories to explain how acupuncture works.

Previously in this blog series, we’ve shared ways acupuncture can encourage feelings of calm; how acupuncture can help with headaches; ways it can help with busy minds and insomnia; and last time we also featured how acupuncture can give you an energy boost and also support your immune system. In this final blog we’re talking about the point known to help with anxiety and PMT.

Great Surge (Liv 3)
Metaphor: The Highway to Happy Calm

This point is a great thoroughfare and often likened to the concept of a highway because of its location and its role in regulating the flow of Qi (energy) and blood throughout the body & meridian system. Another alternative name is ‘Happy Calm,’ which indicates the profound effect it can have on calming the mind and spirit. In fact, it’s very calming for those who are quick tempered or irritable or feel tension in their bodies. It is often used in conjunction with LI4 (The Great Eliminator) and when combined with this point, it’s known as the “Four Gates” for calming generalised anxiety. Liv 3 can also be used for courage when a person wants to combat fear. It's used a lot for menstrual symptoms PMT and also can help migraines.

For more storytelling and to learn other tips on how to improve your condition or ailment through Chinese medicine and other remedies, book a treatment with Rebecca or any of our other terrific acupuncturists today. We’d be happy to advise during your session.
